Cooperation with Organization For Security and Co-Operation in Europe
One of the important organizations that the Azerbaijani Commissioner for human rights is cooperating is Organization For Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE). The most significant direction of this mutual cooperation was a joint project carried out with the OSCE Baku Office.
Within this joint project “Rapid Investigation Group” and hot line of the Ombudsman were created on 4 June, 2004 for the investigation human rights violations in isolators, temporary detention places as well as for rapidly response to complaints.
Between 26-29 October, 2010OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) jointly with the OSCE Baku Officeorganized four day training-seminar has been for the Ombudsman’s NPM staff members in order to strengthen their professional activity.
Furthermore, in the frame of the national preventive mechanism, the Azerbaijani Commissioner for human rights jointly with the OSCE Baku Office launched methodological seminar about how to conduct monitoring in places of deprivation liberty and to prepare visit reports on 26-27 April, 2012.
The OSCE also highlighted the activity of the Commissioner of Azerbaijan in the field of protecting and promoting women’s rights and gender equality as best practice in its “Handbook for National Human Rights Institutions on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality” published in 2012, along with the other European leading countries.
